The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde
 a Thursday Next novel.
This is a new kind of fantasy. Thursday Next is from the "real" world and works in the "book" world. It's a good mystery as well as a good fantasy and it's different. I look forward to reading some of the other books in the series. I don't want to say a lot, so you can have the same fun I did in reading the book. Many of the charters in the story are from other works of fiction - and they let you know what books they are from. A lot of fun and a good read.
The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde
a Nursery Crime

This is the second book I've read by Jasper Fforde - the first being a Thursday Next adventure called The Well of Lost Plots. I like that book it was different - but The Big Over Easy I didn't want to put down. The world of the Big Over Easy is surreal to say the least - our main charter is Detective Inspector Jack Spratt and he is investigating Murder of Humpty Stuyvesant van Dumpty. He is helped by his partner Detective Sgt. Mary Mary. There are charters our of fiction, nursery rhymes and aliens. Its a good detective novel and a good fantasy - and it's funny! As the story begins Jack has just failed in having the three pigs convicted of murdering Mr. Wolff. Oh yeah - Jack has a Titan renting a room form him. His mother has a beanstalk growing in her yard, a very large beanstalk. And to be a good detective you must have your adventures written up in Amazing Crime Stories.
Jasper Fforde create his own genre. His books are fun to read and I recommend both of his series Thursday Next and the new Nursery Crime series. Look for them in your favorite bookstore or get them at Amazon.com.
