The CWverse is a group of TV shows about TV Superheroes. It was started as the Arrowverse since Arrow was the first of the CW heroes in  related universes. And we will be starting it with a show that was on NBC - Constantine - because the character became a regular in the CWverse with the same actor that was in the NBC show playing Constantine. The show cover several different Earths, but they are all related somehow.

CONSTANTINE

2014-2015

Starring: Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau, Angêlica Celaya, Charles Halford

Developed for TV by Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer

12 episodes NBC

This was a really well done series, it was Constantine - which was also it downfall. Constantine is not a likable person, but that is what makes Constantine, Constantine. Just as this was looking like it was going to get real good with the introduction of Jim Corrigan - it had the fans waiting for the Spectre - but the show ended.  But Constantine did return with the Cwverse, becoming a regular on DC Legends of Tomorrow. Matt Ryan has also played Constantine in several animated DC shows.

An interesting version of Green Arrow. Better than the one on Smallville. He started something that flowed into most of the CW heroes - and that was Team Arrow - which made a lot of sense. A group of people who helps the hero, including other heroes. The also introduced heroes that would latter be on other CW show.  The fact that they were in the same universe we could have cross overs with the other heroes. Arrow had one BAD feature - Flash backs - the first season, they were not too bad, as they showed what happened on the Island, but then season after season having flashbacks that did little more that interrupt the show, so something that could have been seen in two weeks took four. But besides that, the show were good.

THE FLASH

2014 - Present

A great version of the Flash. Like Arrow, we have a Team Flash with support people and other heroes. Were Arrow had non-superheroes, the Flash is all about Meta-humans - beings who got their power because of an accident at Star Labs. Has introduced even more heroes both past and present from the DC universes. It has been one of my favorite of the CW shows. Again we have cross overs. Which makes my day. A fun series can be seen on CW and CW seed and back episodes can be seen on several streaming services.

SUPERGIRL

A nice version of Supergirl, starts on another Earth and after crisis on infinite earths cross over ends up in the same as Flash and Arrow.  The one thing about the CW versions is that it is believable that they are all in the same universe. Close enough to their comic book counter parts to satisfy the fans - but a difference.

DC LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

2016 - 2022

Starring: Caity Lotz, Amy Louise Pemberton, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Brandon Routh, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Matt Ryan,  Adam Tsekhman, Franz Drameh, Olivia Swann, Victor Garber, Arthur Darvill, Courtney Ford, Wentworth Miller, Neal McDonough, Clara Renee, Keiynan Lonsdale, Falk Hentschel

Legends had a lot of DC heroes including Rip Hunter, Time Master; Hawk Girl, Hawkman, Atom, Firestorm, Steel, Ray, White Canary, John Constanine and many others. This was a fun show, much more humor than the rest. The legends seem to screw up almost as much as they saved the day.

BLACK LIGHTNING

2017 - 2021

Starring: Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, Marvin Jones III, China Anne McClain, James Remar, Jordan Calloway

Created for TV by Salim Akil

Took place on another Earth until the Crisis on infinite Earth storyline. To me this was a little disappointing and even after Crisis it stayed away from the rest of the heroes. Like the other CW DC heroes the adaption was good. I think that I would have like it more if it had other heroes showing up from time to time.

BATWOMAN

2019 - 2022

Starring: Camrus Johnson, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Javicia Leslie, Ruby Rose, Christina Wolfe, Wallis Day

Created for TV by Caroline Dries

51 Episodes CW

TV-14

In the comics Kate Kane was the original Batwoman in the 50’s, who was not related to Bruce. Once the current Batgirl came into the picture, Kate disappeared.  Then the comics brought her back very much like she is in the CW show.  Ruby Rose was a great Batwoman. But she only stayed one season of the show. Next came Javicia Leslie playing Ryan Wilder who takes over the Batwoman mantle as Batwoman, like Batman becomes MIA. The show started out in another Earth, but after Crisis it became part of the Arrowverse. And we did have other heroes showing up from time to time. I liked Ryan Wilder, but I think the show may have lasted longer with Kate as Batwoman.  I would have recast Kate instead of passing the cape to another person.

This is on Earth 2 or CWVerse version of Earth 2.  The Earth with the JSA. I think I LOVE this more than any of the other CW shows. It about a new JSA with the kids of the the old JSA and Sidekick to the Star Spangled Kid, Stripsey. In this version the SS Kid becomes Starman and a member of the original JSA. And Stripsey step daughter becomes Star Girl. The show is full of golden age DC easter eggs. They have photoes of the JSA and seven Knights of Victory. There is so much that can happen. As of this writing there has only been 26 episodes and I can’t wait for the next season to start. So far we have no cross overs with the other Earth.

SUPERMAN AND LOIS

2021 - Present

Starring: Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Jordan Elsass, Alex Garfin, Wole Parks, Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adam Rayner, Joselyn Picard, Jenna Dewan

Created for TV by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing

Since the same people are playing Superman and Lois, you might think this is a spin off of Supergirl, but no, it takes place on another Earth. This Earth when the series starts Superman is the only Superhero and had been around for about 20 years. He has two teenage sons, one named after his Earth Father and one after his Krypton father. The show is good. Tyler Hoechlin makes a good Superman. It is interesting to see how it would go. And it takes place in Smallville. So far we have we LL’s in it. Now I would be interested in a cross over with the rest of the CWVerse. It would be great - finding out that there are other Earths again.

NAOMI

2022 - ?

Starring :Kaci Walfall, Cranston Johnson, Alexander Wraith, Mary-Charles Jones, Mouzam Makkar, Daniel Pulg

Created for TV by Jill Blankenship

TV - 14

Having not read the comic, I don’t know how good they did in that aspect. But as a show it was good.  It took place on another Earth, one that didn’t know they had any Superheroes. Naomi comes from another Earth. Her power first show off, when people see Superman (off screen). Everyone believes it to be stunt but it was a breach between Earth. It looks like we are going to only get the one season and it leaves so much up in the air.  She meets others from her Earth and a hawkman from Thanagar and people from other planets.  But the series was not long enough….maybe HBOMax will pick it up, we can only hope.
