20 episodes Syfy

TV-14

This had some good episodes and some bad. It took place before the birth of Jor-el on Krypton, something that not a lot is known, so they had room to do their own thing, so they change Adam Strange, one of the few things that a lot is known about. The idea was good, but…it seemed to be lacking.  First off Krypton didn’t seem to be a very nice planet to live on. Through out the Silver age Krypton was a beautiful planet with good people, yeah they were dumb people on the science council who wouldn’t believe one of their top scientist when he told them the planet was going to blow up, but beside that Krypton was far ahead of Earth with Science.  Then they started making Krypton darker place, but this is a planet you would want to leave even if it wasn’t going to blow up. This was originaly on SyFy but reruns can be found on HBOMax.

TITANS

DC Universe/HBO Max

TV-MA

I always liked the Teen Titans/Titans in the comics, even the silly silver age stories where they were they were just turning into their teen years. Now this is a very dark version of the Titans, but in the first three seasons we have already seen three of the people who wore the Robin costume. Tons of heroes. Some are better than others. All in all it is a good show.

DOOM PATROL

2019 -

Starring: Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Jolvan Wade, Timothy Dalton, Alan Tudyk, Michelle Gomez,

Created for TV by Jeremy Carver

DC Universe/ HBO Max

TV-MA

I like the comics or the early comics were the Doom Patrol was a superhero team. One of the biggest problems with this is they pick people from all the different incarnations of Doom Patrol and roll all into one. I sort of like the show, but I’m behind in watching it. It has too many little things that bother me. I don’t like how they are using Rita, she was way more interesting in the comics. The rest are not bad.

SWAMP THING

2019

Starring: Crystal Reed, Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean , Derek Mears, Henderson Wade, Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Kevin Durand, Macon Blair. Ian Ziering

Created for TV by Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheiden

10 Episodes DC Universe

TV-MA

By far the best version of Swamp Thing yet, hopfully we will see more now that HBO Max has all the DC Universe titles.  It gave us beside Swamp Thing, Phantom Stranger, Blue Devil and Madame Xanadu. For some reason it didn’t go over, because it had a second season planned. Like everything that started on DC Universe it was on the Dark side. We have a good start for JLA Dark.

WATCHMEN

2019

Starring: Regina King, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, Sara Vickers, Jeremy Irons, Andrew Howard, Louis Gosset Jr. , Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson

Created for TV by Damon Lindelof

9 episodes HBO

TV MA

This takes place in the Watchmen universe after the original graphic novel. Once again Alan Moore went all out to prove he has no idea how the world works, since he wanted to make sure his name appears no where with the show.  It is amazing that we have a very good Movie adaption and this mini-series, all as true as you can get to the original source when turning a comic book into a movie or TV show. I sure Dave Gibbons doesn’t mind being listed as the only creator of the source material. I enjoyed this series and it was written as a one-shot mini-series with no plans for more seasons.  If they have more, it will be a different story, not a more of this one. I like this because the show had a real ending, like a movie does.

PENNYWORTH

2019 -

Starring: Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Emma Paetz, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinsonm Oakina Fautgm Ranib Tujaran, Ian Puleston-Davies

Created for TV by Bruno Heller

Epix/ HBO Max

TV-MA

A very good series taking place on an alternate Earth. Didn’t start watching until it was on HBO Max, didn’t think I would care for it too much, and I was wrong. It is most likely taking place in the Universe of Christopher Nolan’s Batman. Now that it is part of HBO Max we will be getting a third season. They try to show how Alfred was able to raise the future BATMAN. Well worth a watch…

PEACEMAKER

2022 -

Starring: John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Robert Patrick, Annie Chang, Viola Davis

Created for TV by James Gunn

HBO Max

TV-MA

This starts after the end of The Suicide Squad and keeps running with dark humor. Now when Peacemaker first appeared in comics - it was not done as a humor piece. The writers didn’t get the fact that they had a person who killed people for Peace. It is a lot of fun and we do get to see another Carlton hero Judomaster  along with  DC’s Adrian Chase - Vigilante. This TV-MA is the same as an “R” rating in a movie, and if adult movies offend you, don’t watch.  Can’t wait for season two.

Some of the show that may come from HBO Max (I say may as there seems to be a lot of changing around things right now) Green Lantern which will have Guy Gardner and Alan Scott along with other Green Lanterns. There is talk about Justice League Dark series, Val-Zod series, Aqualad series, Madam X, Arkham, Pengquin, Dead Boy Detectives, DC Super Hero High, Justice U. Right now all we can do is wait. Hopfully the new Warner - Discovery will find that DC can be a money maker for them. A lot of the shows are not getting any talk right now, some are said the be put on hold, and some are not coming.

As you know HBOmax is now just MAX. We are still waiting for new Superhero shows, we do have a couple of very good animated series.
