Star Wars: The Other Films

Disney wanted to do a Star Wars movie a year and came out with two films, one very good one that was well received and one that was very good but poorly received. Many of the ideas for these film now seem to poping up as mini-series on Disney Plus - now that the Saga is over, will they start another Saga, or just have stand alone films or will Star Wars just be on Disney Plus.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

2016

Starring: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels, Ingvild Della

Directed by Gareth Edwards Written by Chris Weitz, Tony Gilroy, John Knoll, Gary Whitta.

PG-13

LucasFilm/ Disney

2H13M

This is the story about the group, who are mentioned in Star Wars : A New Hope, that got the plans of the Death Star. The story literally ends were A New Hope started. This was a much darker Star Wars. We go into knowing what happens to Rogue One. It has some fantastic CGI work. It is a little more on the edge of your seat than it is a ride.  It was good and fans seem to like it.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

2018

Starring: Aldren Ehrenreich, Joonas Suotamo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Clint Howard, Anthony Daniels

Directed By Ron Howard Written by Jonahtan and Lawrence Kasdan

PG 13

LucasFilms / Disney

2H15M

This was a good movie of the early years of Han Solo. Told a lot of the back story that was hinted at in the other films. Good Story, Good Cast, Good Director - why did the fan hate it.  Harrison Ford. Come on he is way too old to play a young Han Solo. I guess they wanted a body actor using deep fakes to make them look like Ford and him doing the voice. It may have worked with the fans if they had a wrap around where a much older Han Solo is telling the story to someone.  If you haven’t seen the film because of hearing bad things about it, but can accept someone besides Harrison Ford playing Solo, it is well worth a watch.
